Rocky Swimmers Make Good Point Rocky Swimmers Make Good Point Rocky Swimmers Make Good Point
Rocky Swimmers Make Good Point Rocky Point swim coach Terry Lowe remembers that his team lost the Division I championship meet last year only to come back and win the county championship a few days later. But he doesn't expect the same thing to occur this year. Roxbury Swim Club won Tuesday's Division I meet at Long Ridge Club in Stamford with 1,121 points. Rocky Point took second with 1,031, and Long Ridge of Stamford grabbed third with 855.5. The top 16 swimmers in each race from five divisions qualify for Saturday's county championship meet, which will be held at Roxbury. "At this point, we're a better divisional team…

Coaches Work to Manage Dual Tasks The writer, the contractor and the lawyer make it work when it comes to coaching the Norwalk 12-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars. It is not easy, however, to juggle job responsibilities while on the road with the team. Manager Sal Latella and his coaches, Phil Balunek and Tony Schwartz, spent 10 days in New Hampshire with the team en route to the New England Regional championship. The team leaves Thursday for Aberdeen, Md., for the Cal Ripken World Series. The championship game is Aug. 22. But the men say they love coaching, even if it means time away from their jobs. "You know what, they're o…

He spoke primarily to the 9- and 10-year-old players who won the New England championship and finished second in the East Region Invitational last week in Pennsylvania. Fairfield Girls Enjoyed Magical Run Disappointment did not linger for Dave McCartney. Moments after Saturday's 5-4 loss to New York in the championship of the East Regional Invitational for 9- and 10-year-old softball players, the Fairfield manager looked at the big picture. He liked what he saw. "There were over 1,000 teams that started in the nine states that were here,'' McCartney said. "To be in the last two out of those 1,000 is unbelievable. We won 16 straight games. I did some math and the odds of going 16-0 are about 100 trillion to 1. That's what these girls are worth to me...." The Fairfield Little League Girls Soft…
