Troy Finds Joy in Coaching Troy Finds Joy in Coaching Troy Finds Joy in Coaching
Troy Finds Joy in Coaching Tom Troy never gets tired of coaching. He started teaching kids on the art of hitting, throwing and pitching 31 years ago in Stamford, and he's still at it in the Cranbury Baseball League. He coaches his twin sons Matt and Tom on Crown Trophy. "I still get butterflies every time I come to the game,'' Tom says. "When that feeling goes away, it's time to step down." Troy first coached as a teenager in Stamford. He was 15, and the players he coached were 12 and 13. "The only stipulation was I had to have an assistant who was over 18 for insurance purposes,'' Tom says. He still enjoys working w…

Schwartz Law Takes Ripken Major Crown Schwartz Law Takes Ripken Major Crown Schwartz Law Takes Ripken Major Crown
Schwartz Law Takes Ripken Major Crown Schwartz Law clinched the Norwalk Cal Ripken Major Division regular season crown last week, improving its record to 8-1, thanks to a 12-5 comeback victory over the New Canaan Yankees. After spotting the Yankees an early five-run lead, Schwartz Law scored 12 unanswered runs. Leading the comeback was David Balunek, whose fifth-inning grand slam put Schwartz Law ahead for good. Noah Yokoi, Kevin Woodring and A.J. Ibarrondo had two hits each. On the mound, solid relief pitching by T. J. Copeland and Balunek held the potent Yankee offense in check. Yankees starter Harry Malloy pitched three effe…

Rams' Duo Finds Doubles Success Rams' Duo Finds Doubles Success Rams' Duo Finds Doubles Success
Rams' Duo Finds Doubles Success New Canaan's Alyssa Baker and Kimberly Glerum are the nearly perfect doubles team. In two years playing together at No. 1 doubles, Baker and Glerum have dropped just one match. They are undefeated this season as the Rams have reached the semifinals of the Class M tournament. Baker, a senior, and Glerum, a junior, said they were aware of each other since they were about 10 years old and played at the New Canaan Field Club. Coach Gail Overbeck paired them together last spring and they have flourished. Their only loss came in the State Open final last year, when the Weston pair of Marie Gargiul…
