Brown Helps King Net Elusive Title The one thing Brianna Brown never earned during her stellar basketball career at King School was a championship. The Norwalk resident has one now. She scored 37 points to lead King to a 57-51 win over Hamden Hall in the Fairchester Athletic Association championship game for the Vikings’ first league championship since 1996. “All those individual goals are nice, but a team championship goes on your wall that everybody sees forever,’’ said Brown, a senior who will play at St. John’s University. “It’s better to have that.” Brown has started for King since the eighth grade. She's the school’s a…

SoNo AC Pushes for Performance If your objective is to shed pounds, Chris Wyant’s SoNo Athletic Club is the wrong place. If the goal is a fitness level that will amaze your friends, his recently-opened facility might be just right. The club, in the heart of South Norwalk, offers programs for everyone, including cycling, rowing, weightlifting and yoga. Two unique programs are CrossFit, an intense strength and conditioning program used by many police academies, and Barre training, a mix of yoga, Pilates and stretching often used by dancers and actors.“We work on performance-based goals, not on losing eight or 10 pounds,’’ C…
Runners Face a Freeze Runners Face a Freeze Runners Face a Freeze
Runners Face a Freeze As snow descends upon us yet again, how will more than 200 running zealots navigate 15-plus miles early Sunday morning? That's what was on the mind of race director Jim Gerweck of Norwalk, after Thursday’s messy weather wiped out a training day for Boston Marathon runners.[breakhere]   The final leg of the Boston Buildup Series, a 25-kilometer run, is scheduled to begin Sunday at 9 a.m. at Norwalk’s Silvermine School. Bad weather is one of the charms of the series, which begins with a 10-kilometer race on the weekend after New Year’s Day. Runners never know what kind of weather they’ll get,…

Stockfisch Brings Heat To Winter Soccer Camp The scene outside Brien McMahon High School Wednesday said winter. Snowblowers whirled in the school parking lot, where remnants from Tuesday’s storm made walking tricky while a bright sun did little to take the chill off a February day. Inside, however, where Senators’ soccer coach Nicole Stockfisch conducted her first Girls Youth Soccer Clinic, you couldn’t tell that Old Man Winter had arrived in full fury less than 24 hours earlier. Stockfisch moved around the McMahon gymnasium as though she were outside. [breakhere] Stockfisch completed her first year as the Senators’ coach last fall, but…
