Aces Open Defense of Norwalk Softball Title NORWALK, Conn. Tom Cossuto knows a lot of teams are out to knock off the Aces, defending champions in the East Division of the Norwalk Recreation and Parks softball tournament. He also knows the teams undefeated run to the title last year provided invaluable experience. Tickets Available for Stamford Old Timers Dinner STAMFORD, Conn. The Stamford Old Timers will hold its 69th Annual Dinner on Monday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Italian Center. Proceeds help fund scholarships given each year to needy and deserving local scholar athletes. The group also provides sponsorship to area teams. Norwalk Soccer Blue Devils Win a Pair NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Junior Soccer Association's Under 11 boys Blue Devils won two games this past weekend. On Saturday, the Blue Devils easily won their first Connecticut Cup game in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Associations U11 boys bracket, beating Southington 6-0. In the first half, forward Christian Gavriedis got the first score, with an assist by Eduardo Vargas, followed by two unassisted goals, both by center midfielder Jonathan Jiminez. New Canaan's Ondash Stars for Cornell Football NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan High grad Kurt Ondash is off to a great start with the Cornell University football team, having emerged as its leading receiver. Ondash, a junior, has nine catches for 191 yards and one touchdown in the first two games for the Big Red (1-1). He caught an 87-yard touchdown pass in the teams 24-13 victory over Bucknell in the season-opener. Ondash also had eight catches for 104 yards in a 37-17 loss to Yale last weekend. Norwalk Swimmers Shine After Season Is Saved NORWALK, Conn. Katie Baritz, Ashley Balunek and Mallory Ham had feared that the co-op girls swimming program for Norwalk and Brien McMahon would get axed in budget cuts back in January. The girls are now the captains of the team and remain incredulous that the program was ever in jeopardy. I was furious, said Ham, a junior from Brien McMahon. I was so angry. Norwalk Grizzlies 8th Graders Top Fairfield NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk PAL Grizzlies 8th grade football team defeated Fairfield, 7-0, in a hard-fought Fairfield County Football League game last weekend. Tyler McMillian scored Norwalk's touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. The touchdown was set up by an interception by Terrence Bates to stop a Ridgefield drive. Staples Boys Soccer Nets Another Shutout WESTPORT, Conn. The Staples' boys soccer team lost a lot of firepower from last year's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship team. The new-look Wreckers defeated Ridgefield, 1-0, on Wednesday to improve to 5-0 on the season, and they are doing it with defense. Stamford's Fortt Shines in Penn State's Victory STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford's Khairi Fortt made the most of his opportunity for Penn State on Saturday when he had a career-high six tackles in a 34-6 win over Eastern Michigan. The sophomore linebacker saw increased playing time after Michael Mauti, the team's leading tackler, suffered a torn ACL in the first quarter. Fortt, who had been listed on the depth chart at middle linebacker, rotated in on the outside and had his best game with the Nittany Lions since making 11 stops during a game last season against Illinois. Greenwich Man Takes 3rd in Westchester Triathlon Greenwich's Robert Dahl finished third overall in the men's field Sunday at the Jarden Westchester Triathlon in Rye, N.Y.Dahl, 55, completed the Olympic-distance course in 2:09.49. Ryan Siebert, 20, of Long Island, won the race in 2:01.21. Mauricio Sanchez of New York finished second in 2:08:18. Earlier this summer, Dahl finished eighth in his age group at the national championships in Vermont.
