Pivotal Murphy, Harckham State Senate Battle Gets Heated The 40th Senate District, which includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties is considered one of eight "battleground" elections that could tip the balance of political power in Albany. Murphy of Yorktown was elected to the state Senate in 2014, and is completing his second two-year term.  Harckham of South Salem, a former Westchester County legislator, defeated Robert Kesten in the Sept. 13 Democratic Party primary election. 'Trumponomics' Factor: Stefanowski Treads Fine Line Will President Trump help or hurt Bob Stefanowski in the Tuesday, Nov. 6 election for governor? In campaign ads and televised debates, Stefanowski has managed to display himself as an independent thinker. But the former corporate executive has not been shy about espousing economic policies that resemble Donald Trump's, like scorning taxes and tolls. Also like Trump, the 56-year-old Stefanowski of Madison often fails to provide details to back up his rhetoric, according to his 64-year-old Democratic challenger Ned Lamont of Greenwich. During gubernatorial debates, Stefanowski passed on oppo…

The district tipped slightly in favor of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election.  Maloney, 52, is an openly gay Democrat, whom O'Donnell, 67,…

Oz Griebel Expected To Play 'Spoiler' Role In Next Week's Governor Election This story has been updated. With Ned Lamont and Bob Stefanowski nearly deadlocked in recent public opinion polls, a third candidate is expected to play a key roll in the Nov. 6 election. Political observers are saying that Richard "Oz" Griebel, a former Republican running as an independent could sift decisive votes away from the two major party candidates. University experts, pollers and party officials predict Griebel could receive at least 6 to 7 percent of the statewide vote -- especially in Hartford County -- and more likely harm Stefanowski of Madison than Lamont of Greenwi…

President Trump Vows End To Birthright Citizenship, Sparking Democratic Uproar Just when elected officials from both major political parties are calling on President Donald Trump to tone down pre-Midterm Election rhetoric, the Republican vowed to sign an executive order ending the century-old practice of birthright citizenship. Trump's announcement triggered immediate scorn from U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey and other leading Democrats, but praise from congressional Republicans. Trump said he plans to terminate the automatic right to citizenship for children born in the U.S. to non-citizens, a move that some legal experts say would be unconstitutional. "It’s in the process.
