Latimer Issues Executive Order Banning Gun Shows On County Property This story has been updated. As one of his first actions as Westchester County's new County Executive, George Latimer signed an executive order on Tuesday banning gun shows on county property. Former County Executive Rob Astorino of Mount Pleasant, who Latimer defeated on Nov. 7, 2017, supported gun and knife shows at the public-owned County Center in White Plains. "This is the wrong venue for these gun shows,'' Latimer said at an afternoon news conference, surrounded by county legislators and gun control advocates. "I thank you for listening to all the people of Westchester,'' …

Latimer defeated incumbent Republican Rob Astorino of Mount Pleasant by 57 to 43 percent. The Rye Democrat told more than 300 breakfast guests of the Business Council of Westchester that he has never pretended to have all the answers. Change In Leadership Results In No Gun Show At County Center One of the first signs that change is in the wind in Westchester County is the expected cancellation in January 2018 of a popular -- and unpopular depending on your point of view -- gun and knife show at the public-owned County Center in White Plains. Ned McCormack, a spokesman for Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, confirmed there will be no gun show at the County Center. "There was no contract for a gun show and the administration is not going to sign a contract for a gun show," McCormack told Daily Voice. The gun show's past promoter erroneously posted dates on his web…
