Bergen County players turned scratch-offs into serious cash last week, with two big wins hitting just days apart.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, a $10,000 prize from the “$5,000,000 Fortune” game was sold at Krauszer’s, 184 Godwin Ave. in Midland Park, New Jersey Lottery officials said.
Then, on Friday, Aug. 22, luck struck again in Bergen County. A ticket from the “Big Money Spectacular” game worth $30,000 was sold at Route 4 Petroleum LLC, 70 Route 4 East in Englewood, officials said.
That adds up to $40,000 in lottery winnings across Bergen County in less than a week.

A $75,000 scam that spanned three months ended with an arrest in Lyndhurst, police said.
A township resident reported on Tuesday, Aug. 12, that they had fallen victim to an unsolicited scam beginning April 20, according to Chief Richard Jarvis. Over the next several months, the victim transferred money both digitally and in person, believing they were participating in an investment opportunity, Jarvis said.

The Garden State Parkway was closed in Bergen County Friday, Aug. 22 due to an overturned vehicle, the DOT website shows.
John Henry Dasilva, 27, of New Milford, was driving northbound on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 171 when he saw a gray BMW SUV traveling at an estimated 80 to 90 mph veer onto the grass median on the southbound side at around 9:50 a.m., he tells Daily Voice.
The vehicle crashed into trees in the center of the parkway and flipped forward, he said. Dasilva was unable to stop but called police to report the crash, he said.
