Detectives have put a stop to one family's cocaine distribution business in a series of raids across Essex County Tuesday, July 9, authorities said.
More than 10,000 vials of cocaine, several hundred grams of cocaine, $17,600 in cash and a handgun with an extended magazine were seized by detectives, ultimately leading to charges against Edwin Medina, 32 and his mother, Sandra Almodovar, 51, both of Newark, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. A 42-year-old Bloomfield man was arrested and charged with firing gunshots at another vehicle during a road rage incident in Montclair on Monday, June 17, authorities said.
Nelson Santos, who was driving a white Tesla, unsuccessfully tried to overtake the victims in their vehicle, and then continued following them until they pulled over at New Street and Washington Street just before 10 p.m., Montclair police said in a release.

Prosecutor Identifies Victim Killed In Route 46 Crash
Gerard Calcagno, a 55-year-old Bloomfield resident, was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Route 46 in Parsippany on Thursday, June 6, authorities said.
At 9:50 p.m., Calcagno was struck near 1429 Route 46 by a 2015 Dodge Journey traveling eastbound, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.
Calcagno was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver remained on scene, authorities said.
