A New York man has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a juvenile in Bergen County, authorities said.
Jose Mendez-Ortiz, 51, of Pearl River, NY, was taken into custody Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Elmwood Park Police Department, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

A New Jersey educator already jailed on child sex assault charges is now facing new accusations, authorities said.
Darnell Williams, 34, of Manchester, was charged Wednesday, Sept. 17, with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a press release.

A 16-year-old boy and his guardian are facing charges following the recovery of two handguns in upstate New York.
Kierra Allen, 37, of Watervliet, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 10, after police said she failed to adequately supervise the teen, who was allegedly found in possession of two handguns.
The boy was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. Allen is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
