Southern State Triple Fatal: Driver High On Marijuana Sentenced For Causing Farmingdale Crash
A 29-year-old man who was high on marijuana and driving nearly 100 miles per hour when he caused a triple-fatal crash on the Southern State Parkway will spend years behind bars.
Matthew Whyte, of Queens, was sentenced to between 4 ½ and 13 ½ years in prison in Nassau County Court on Thursday, April 24.
It followed his guilty plea to aggravated vehicular homicide for the Nov. 5, 2022, collision that killed Ciara Hare, 18, Florence Oprisan, 18, Jean Marc Miller, 22.

A 36-year-old Ledyard man accused of driving drunk and fatally striking a pedestrian now faces new charges following a months-long investigation, police announced.
William Stonier, of Ledyard, is charged with failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving, and second-degree manslaughter, Connecticut State Police said. He was previously charged with driving under the influence and illegal firearm possession while intoxicated.
Police said Stonier hit Richard Dupont, of Jewett City, on River Road near the intersection of Lee Road in Lisbon on Oct. 14, 2024.
