Three people were injured in a multi-car crash in Newark on Sunday, April 5, authorities said.
At 5:13 p.m., officers responded to McCarter Highway near Exit 4 after a driver stopped suddenly on the northbound side of the highway, causing the driver behind that vehicle to stop short, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
The second vehicle was then struck from behind, Miranda said. This resulted in four more vehicles being struck from behind, for a total of five crashes. The first vehicle, which was not struck, fled the scene, Miranda said.

Woman, 28, Accused Of Stabbing Man In Domestic Assault At New Rochelle Apartment Tower (Update)
A woman has now been charged in connection with a stabbing at a new apartment building in Westchester County that left a man seriously injured, police announced.
Ijahnee Simmons, age 28, of New Rochelle, was arrested around 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, New Rochelle Police said on Friday, April 3.
The charges stem from a domestic incident earlier that morning at 12 Church St., inside The Leaf apartment building, according to the department.

Attempted Murder: Unconscious Woman Found In Rye Brook Home, Man Charged, Cops Say
A 37-year-old woman was found unconscious and not breathing inside a Westchester home, leading to an attempted murder charge against a man at the residence, police said.
Rye Brook Police were called to a home on Westview Avenue on Monday morning, March 30, for a report of a dispute, according to a news release issued Tuesday, March 31.
Responding officers located the woman inside the home and immediately began CPR, police said. Officers also detained a male party at the scene, identified as Hugo Soto-Diaz, 30, who lives at the home, police said.

Shillington Man Killed After Crossing Center Line, Crashing Into Trash Truck On Route 724: Coro
A man was killed after his pickup truck crossed the center line and crashed into a trash truck, the coroner announced on Wednesday, March 18.
Justin Braun, 47, of Shillington, was driving westbound in the 1800 block of Philadelphia Avenue, also known as Route 724, in Cumru Township on Tuesday afternoon, March 17, when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound trash truck, according to the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
Braun was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 p.m. by Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel, the release states.
