A Jersey City man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery during a Facebook Marketplace meetup in Bergen County, authorities said.
On June 3, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Palisades Park police responded to Broad Avenue and East Brinkerhoff Avenue for a report of an armed robbery, according to Police Chief George Beck.
The victim told police he was selling his iPhone 16 Max Pro through Facebook Marketplace and agreed to meet the buyer in the area. While waiting, a man approached, brandished a knife, stole the phone, and fled on foot, police said.

Facebook Marketplace Thief Steals $1,400 Tool, Police In Bloomingdale Say
Police in Passaic County have arrested a man who they say stole a $1,400 vehicle programming tool from a victim he met on Facebook Marketplace.
Jayson Moralessales, of Orange, agreed to meet the seller in person to buy the tool, but instead, fled with the item without paying on Oct. 5, police in Bloomingdale said.
Moralessales was identified as a suspect and arrested on Monday, Oct. 7, police said. He was released on a summons pending his court appearance.

A Long Island car dealer and her associate are accused of duping customers into buying high mileage used cars by changing their odometer readings.
Ashley Duff, age 27, and Ginger Sipes, age 58, both of Shirley, are facing fraud and conspiracy charges in Suffolk County Court.
Prosecutors said Duff’s company, ABB Auto World Inc., bought high mileage cars from auctions and then had their odometers rolled back to show lower mileage. Some of the vehicles had over 200,000 miles on them.

In a police sting, a robber who allegedly stole a laptop via a Facebook Marketplace meet-up was arrested in Burlington County, authorities said.
Trayvon Turner, 20, of the Bronx, NY, is accused of meeting a seller and then forcefully stealing a laptop, Evesham police said. He's been charged with robbery and theft in the incident at a Walmart parking lot in Evesham Township.
Undercover Evesham detectives posed as buyers online and were able to arrest Turner when he tried to resell the stolen laptop, police said on Monday, March 11.

A former mayor of Ocean Gate will spend time in state prison for pocketing money from government auctions, parking meter funds, and scrap metal sales, authorities said.
Paul Kennedy, 68, of Ocean Gate, was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 26 to three years in prison, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced. Kennedy pleaded guilty on Friday, Sept. 22 to pattern of official misconduct. As part of his plea deal, Kennedy is banned from holding public office or employment.

A maintenance man at a Garfield garden apartment complex scammed hopeful renters out of $14,000 by posting bogus listings on Facebook, showing them empty units he claimed he owned and then collecting deposits from them, authorities charged.
John K. DelValle, a 48-year-old bodybuilder from Hackensack, made it all appear genuine by having the victims sign worthless rental agreements, police said.
