Westport Firefighters, Animal Control Race To Save Trapped Kittens
A litter of kittens stuck in a storm drain in Fairfield County are lucky firefighters don't give up as they continue to work to rescue the little balls of fur and their mother. The kittens were found in Westport on Monday, Aug. 26, in the storm drain on Post Road. According to the Westport Fire Department, luckily, one kitten has been rescued since Monday, but the mother cat and her kittens trapped in the storm drain pipe at a Post Road business entrance have moved further back into the pipe, which empties into a 12-foot well. Car Goes Up In Flames Near Taconic State Parkway In Yorktown
A vehicle blaze near a parkway in Northern Westchester sent a column of smoke into the air before it was put out by firefighters. The fire happened in Yorktown on Sunday morning, Aug. 25, when a vehicle was consumed by flames on Underhill Avenue near its crossing with the Taconic State Parkway, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Arriving fire crews were soon able to extinguish the blaze, the department said. No injuries were reported.

Four Marina Employees Suffer Smoke Inhalation During Boat Fire In Wildwood, Firefighters Say
Four people suffered smoke inhalation after a large boat caught fire at a marina in Wildwood, officials said. The fire started on the boat docked at Schooner Island Marina at around 12:39 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, the City of Wildwood Fire Department said in a Facebook post. When firefighters arrived, they found the roughly 42-foot boat named "Luv-It" engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the dock and a nearby small shed. Police have identified a 59-year-old Hampden County man as the victim in an alleged drunk driving crash last week. Crews are at the scene of a reported gas leak in Doylestown, borough police said Wednesday, July 10. The leak happened in the Doylestown Hunt Estates housing development just before noon, according to authorities. Steeplechase Drive is closed from South Main Street to Birdsong Way while police and firefighters investigate, they added.
