The Garden State Parkway was closed in Bergen County Friday, Aug. 22 due to an overturned vehicle, the DOT website shows.
John Henry Dasilva, 27, of New Milford, was driving northbound on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 171 when he saw a gray BMW SUV traveling at an estimated 80 to 90 mph veer onto the grass median on the southbound side at around 9:50 a.m., he tells Daily Voice.
The vehicle crashed into trees in the center of the parkway and flipped forward, he said. Dasilva was unable to stop but called police to report the crash, he said.

A 48-year-old Tuckerton man was killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway, authorities announced Friday, Aug. 1.
On Friday, July 25 at 12:12 a.m., a Toyota passenger vehicle operated by Frank Ippolito was traveling south on the Garden State Parkway when it lost directional control, exited the roadway and crashed into a tree, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for New Jersey State Police said.
Ippolito was pronounced dead at the scene, Lebron said.

One person was killed and another seriously injured after a BMW SUV packed with four Staten Island residents crashed and flipped along the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey State Police said.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, near milepost 130.2, in the southbound lanes of Woodbridge, according to a release from state police.
Troopers say the BMW SUV hit two other vehicles, a Ford SUV and a separate BMW passenger car, before running off the road, striking multiple trees, and overturning.

A school bus carrying 31 people, including children, overturned on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale Monday night, March 10, shutting down all lanes, officials said.
New Jersey State Police responded to the crash at 7:39 p.m. near milepost 170.5 in Montvale, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan. A preliminary investigation found that the bus, driven by a 44-year-old Lakewood man, veered off the right side of the roadway and overturned, authorities said.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m., when Jose Cerda-Estevez, of Plainfield, got out of a Honda Pilot that was traveling southbound in the express lanes near milepost 112.8, police said.
