8 New Lyndhurst Police Officers Sworn
Four new Lyndhurst police officers are headed to the academy while four more have entered the department’s orientation training after being sworn in. Mayor Robert Giangeruso, accompanied by Police Chief Richard Jarvis, swore in the new hires, who bring the total number of officers in the department to 53. 4-Week-Old Boy Killed In Hackensack Crash
A 4-week-old boy was killed in a car crash Saturday night in Hackensack. The child apparently was on his mother’s lap when the late-model Mercedes sedan struck a utility pole in front of 286 Passaic Street just after 9 p.m., a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the tragedy said. The boy "sustained head trauma as a result of the accident and was later pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center," Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a brief release Sunday afternoon. Minivan With Kids Inside Injures DPW Worker In Rochelle Park Hit-Run
A DPW worker was treated for minor injuries after a minivan with juveniles inside struck a trailer hitting him in a Rochelle Park chain reaction crash Friday morning. Sheree Rogers, 33, fled from the Midland School incident in a black Dodge Caravan around 10:35 a.m., but was stoped by Hackensack police a short while later on Summit and Central avenues, Rochelle Park Det. The Hackensack Police Department has a new captain. Capt. Darrin DeWitt was sworn to the position Tuesday in the City Council chambers surrounded by loved ones and colleagues. Hackensack PD: FedEx Driver Clung To Side Door Of Stolen Truck For 20 Feet
A FedEx employee who had her truck stolen in Hackensack clung to its side door for 20 feet before police located the suspected thief and vehicle parked few streets away, authorities said. Hackensack Repeat Offender Charged With Sexually Assaulting Pre-Teen
A Hackensack ex-con with a previous sex charge on his decade-long criminal record sexually assaulted a pre-teen, said authorities who arrested him. A judge ordered that Justis A. Oliver, 27 remain held in the Bergen County Jail on charges of aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment following a detention hearing last week, records show. A tech consultant used a Hackensack company's money to buy $200,000 worth of cellphones that he then sold on eBay, authorities charged. Michael Acosta, 34, of North Bergen used his position in the company to buy more than 400 phones without authorization from its service provider between October 2015 and September 2018, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said Friday. Hackensack PD Releases Photos Of Valley National Bank Robber
Hackensack police released new images of a man who they said robbed a Valley National Bank of $10,000 last month. They also released photos of the getaway car. The robber approached a teller at the Valley National Bank on Hackensack Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday wearing a black watch cap, green jacket, and black gloves, with his face partially concealed by a gray cloth, authorities said at the time. Bergen Tech Students Make Donated Humvee Street Legal For Hackensack Police Department
Doing their part for public safety, a group of students in the Bergen County Technical School Basic Auto Body Class helped convert a donated Humvee to join the Hackensack Police Department’s fleet. The vehicles are used for high-water rescues in the city – which have been happening more frequently with the increased rainfall this year. A 16-year-old was taken into custody in connection with the gunpoint robbery of a Hackensack diner deliveryman, authorities said. On Oct. 25 just before midnight, a Chit Chat Diner deliveryman was robbed at gunpoint just after getting back into his car on Park Street, Hackensack Police Capt. Frank Aquila said.
