Thousands of workers across New Jersey are being impacted by layoffs reported in early 2026, according to state WARN filings.
Major employers across retail, healthcare, finance, and logistics industries reported job cuts affecting communities from Bergen County to South Jersey, state records show.

Man Gunned Down Estranged Wife At EHT Nursing Home, Shot Himself: Atlantic County Prosecutor
A 38-year-old woman was shot and killed by her estranged husband at a nursing home in Egg Harbor Township Monday, April 13.
At 6 a.m., Brandon Alexander waited in the Excelcare Rehabilitation Facility parking lot for his estranged wife, Victoria Alexander, both of Minotola, to arrive for work, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
Victoria worked there as a nurse, authorities said. Once she arrived, Brandon pulled up and blocked her in, before entering her vehicle and leaving two suicide notes on the dashboard, authorities said.

NJ Extends Mandatory Travel Ban Amid Blizzard Conditions
A mandatory travel restriction has been extended across New Jersey as a severe winter storm continues to slam the state with heavy snow and strong winds, officials said.
The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, under the Division of the New Jersey State Police, announced the restriction that began at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, will now remain in effect until 12 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.

Caregiver Slaps Disabled 5-Year-Old Child In Port Jefferson, Police Say
A home health aide has been arrested after allegedly slapping a disabled 5-year-old child while caring for him at his home, police announced on Friday, Jan. 16.
Bruno Valenzuela, 31, Port Jefferson, was charged after an investigation by Special Victims Unit detectives, police said.
The incident happened when the child, who has cerebral palsy, started coughing and crying while in Valenzuela’s care, authorities said. Valenzuela then “slapped the child aggressively in the back and chest” on Saturday, Dec. 20 at approximately 12:35 p.m., police said.
