Car Hits Tree, Bursts Into Flames Off Route 17
A car caught fire after slamming into a tree Thursday morning in Ho-Ho-Kus. The driver of the Nissan Altima was hospitalized with what authorities said were minor injuries following the 8 a.m. crash on Hollywood Avenue off northbound Route 17. Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters quickly KO'd the blaze. Borough police and the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded. Firefighters Douse Allendale House Blaze
Firefighters doused a house blaze in Allendale late Sunday. The fire broke out on the second floor of the 2½-story, wood-frame house on West Crescent Avenue off Franklin Turnpike around 10:15 p.m. It went to a second alarm for coverage 20 minutes later and was knocked down 10 minutes or so after that, responders said. Firefighters doused a Ho-Ho-Kus basement blaze before it could extend to the rest of the house. Firefighters saved an entire block of businesses and homes by eventually putting down a destructive downtown blaze Sunday night in Ridgewood. The five-alarm fire broke out in an apartment upstairs from the Bagelicious shop on North Broad Street shortly after 9 p.m. and quickly spread to the building housing the Mediterraneo restaurant and an office building. : Seven Hillsdale Firefighters Injured In Westwood Blaze
A recently-sold Westwood house that was undergoing renovations went up in flames overnight, injuring seven Hillsdale firefighters. The firefighters were checked out for what turned out to be minor injuries at nearby Pascack Valley Medical Center (HUMC) after a porch roof collapsed on them in the 5:30 a.m. Oakland Avenue blaze on Wednesday. Three Injured In Separate Route 17 Crashes
Three people were injured in separate Thursday morning crashes on either side of Route 17 in Ho-Ho-Kus. The first occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. and the next about a half-hour later, both near Hollywood Avenue. Two people were taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Their conditions couldn't immediately be determined. Traffic was jammed on either side of the highway. Responding were Ho-Ho-Kus, Ridgewood and Saddle River police, Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters and Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood EMS. Boyd A. Loving took the photo and provided the information.

Authorities asked the public’s help finding a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a pedestrian walking her dog in Ho-Ho-Kus last month. The 57-year-old victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center following the 6:50 p.m. Nov. 26 crash after responders found her on the edge of the roadway at the intersection of North Maple Avenue and First Street, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Thursday. A homeowner in Ho-Ho-Kus was tallying the value of what was taken while police investigated a burglary. Whoever broke in came in through the front door of the West Saddle River home and ransacked the place sometime before 6 p.m. Monday, Police Chief Christopher Minchin said.
