Moped Rider Killed Crashing Into Tractor-Trailer On I-495 In Maryland
Traffic was tied up for miles on I-495 in Prince George's County on Friday afternoon when a moped rider was killed after crashing into a tractor-trailer. With travelers hitting the road for the long Labor Day Weekend, traffic came to a half in the southbound lanes of the interstate near MD Route 295 as Maryland State Police investigated the fatal crash. Police say that the driver of the scooter struck the side of the tractor-trailer, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Weeks Of Full Closures Planned For Portion Of Long Island Expressway
Scheduled roadwork could spell delays for Long Island drivers in the coming weeks. Both directions of the Long Island Expressway are scheduled to close overnight at Exit 63 in the Town of Brookhaven for two weeks, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The eastbound lanes of I-495 are scheduled to close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., while the westbound lanes will shut down between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to the Department of Transportation. Authorities have announced a new planned closure on the Long Island Expressway. In Oyster Bay, the Exit 45 ramp (Manetto Hill Road) from eastbound I-495 will be closed, weather permitting, on Thursday, June 1 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, June 2, according to the Department of Transportation. A 47-year-old Silver Spring man died when the minivan he was operating as a rideshare vehicle struck a deer in Dulles Airport Wednesday, May 17, authorities said. Drivers are being warned about weeks of overnight closures scheduled for a portion of the Long Island Expressway.
