An Alexandria woman is fighting for her life after a golf cart flipped during a trip to Mexico — and now her family is racing to bring her home for treatment.
Shalini Patel Stewart was critically injured on Friday, April 25, while heading to a morning yoga class during a bachelorette trip in Sayulita, Mexico, according to a family friend.
Stewart and three close friends were riding in a golf cart when it crashed, they said. All four were rushed to the hospital, where three were treated, released, and returned home, but Stewart remains in intensive care.

A 28-year-old Toms River man was recently arrested and charged with traveling to Norway to have sex with a minor, authorities said.
From Dec. 1, 2023 through Dec. 10, 2023, Jacob Bauer traveled from the United States to Norway and had sex with a 14-year-old girl, US Attorney Alina Habba said.
After returning to the United States, Bauer communicated over social media platforms with the girl and others about his sexual activities with the 14-year-old, Habba said.

A confirmed case of measles in Bergen County has prompted an alert from the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), warning residents about possible exposure and urging vaccination.
The infected individual, who recently traveled internationally, visited the Englewood Hospital Emergency Department at 350 Engle Street on Sunday, Sunday, Feb. 9, between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., health officials said.

A 31-year-old Wayne man was identified as the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Parsippany before fleeing the scene and then trying to flee the country last month, authorities said.
Davut Batca was behind the wheel of a Toyota RAV4 when he struck Jelson Cabrera, 35, of Trenton, on Route 46 West near Sandra Drive just before 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said.
