MTA Agrees To $500,000 Coronavirus Death Benefit
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Transport Workers Union Local 100 and the Transport Workers Union of America announced an agreement Tuesday establishing a COVID-19 death benefit for TWU members who died after being infected. Under the agreement, the MTA will pay $500,000 in a lump sum to the spouse, beneficiary or estate of each deceased member in active service on or after Feb. 1, 2020, Local 100 in Brooklyn reported. Albert J. Gatti Jr. of East Brunswick died at home Saturday from cancer related to his work at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He was 58. Gatti was one of many first responders who searched for survivors after 9/11. He was employed by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority and Metropolitan Transportation Authority at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Driver Killed After Car Crashes Off Ledge Near Train Station In Westchester
The driver of a car that fell nearly 40 feet off a gated embankment near a train station in Westchester has died.The motorist, described as an elderly man, was driving a Toyota which veered off the road and through a fence late Saturday afternoon near the Mount Vernon East train station at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 1st Street.
