Driver Dead, SUV Found In Hackensack River In River Vale
A popular Hillsdale firefighter was found dead in his SUV Thursday in the upper Hackensack River in River Vale, the apparent victim of a heart attack. John Inserra, 48, was married with three young children -- two boys and a girl. He coached and was extremely active in local youth sports, including softball and wrestling. Inserra was reported missing after he headed to the a gym in Norwood early Thursday and wasn't heard from again, close friends said. Fire Ravages Closter Home
Firefighters doused an early morning house blaze that ravaged a Closter home. A generator tentatively was the suspected cause. Fire blew through the roof of the 2½-story residence on Closter Dock Road near Anderson Avenue after breaking out shortly before 7 a.m. The three-alarm blaze caused significant damage. No injuries were reported. Ex-Con From Dumont Crashes Fleeing Old Tappan Police
A repeat offender from Dumont fled an attempted police stop in Old Tappan and was arrested after his car slammed into a tree, authorities said. James Wilmarth, 33, already was awaiting trial for a Teaneck burglary when Officer Charles DiMaria began pursuing him for speeding on North Washington Avenue shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday, Police Chief Joseph Tracy said. Firefighters Douse Westwood Blaze
Firefighters doused a quick-moving blaze that severely damaged a Westwood home Thursday morning. The fire broke out on the second floor of the Hillside Avenue home around 5:15 a.m. and blew through the attic. A candle left burning overnight may have been to blame, responders said. At least one person was hospitalized following a crash Thursday afternoon near the Rockland County border in Old Tappan. A sedan T-boned an SUV at a blinking yellow light at Orangeburg and Old Tappan roads shortly after 4 p.m. There was no immediate word on the condition of those injured. Both vehicles had to be towed. Tree Worker From Bergenfield Falls To Death In Ridgewood
A tree worker fell to his death Thursday in Ridgewood. The 35-year-old Bergenfield worker for Arrow Tree Service in Old Tappan was nearly 30 feet up when he fell and tree limb landed on top of him at a Waiku Road home off Carlton Terrace at 8:40 a.m., Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. An Old Tappan resident has died and eight other residents recently tested positive for the coronavirus, Mayor John M. Kramer said Friday. SUV Plows Into Entrance Of Old Tappan Mixed-Use Building
A small SUV plowed into an Old Tappan mixed-use building on Friday. The older-model Hyundai continued through a handicapped parking space, mounted a small curb and hit the façade of the Old Tappan Road building between two columns at the entrance.
