A man accused of attacking and choking a Hispanic victim while in line at a Westchester gas station has been released on his own recognizance following his arraignment on hate crime charges, prosecutors announced.
Carl Jones of Spartanburg, South Carolina, 57, was arraigned Sunday, Aug. 10, in Mamaroneck Village Court on one count of third-degree assault as a hate crime, a felony, and one count of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Pop Lloyd Stadium Getting $5.6M Transformation Into Multisport Facility In Atlantic City
A neglected baseball stadium in Atlantic City is getting major upgrades and will soon be used for many other sports, officials said.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday, June 17 for the $5.6 million renovation to Pop Lloyd Stadium. The project will make the stadium playable for baseball, softball, T-ball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey, as well as other sports and activities.
The renovations include adding blue artificial turf, along with new dugouts, locker rooms, bleachers, restrooms, lighting, fencing, and a scoreboard.

Harvard Grad Student, 32, Died In Police Custody While On Indonesian Honeymoon
A 32-year-old transgender Harvard student died earlier this month from alleged police misconduct while on a honeymoon in Indonesia, his family said.
Rodrigo Ventocilla Ventosilla, a Peruvian-born Kennedy School graduate student, was arrested on a drug possession charge when he landed in Bali on Aug, 6, the Harvard Crimson reported. He was dead five days later. His spouse, Sebastián Marallano, and family say the outspoken trans-activist's death is the result of "racial discrimination and transphobia," and they demand a thorough investigation and independent autopsy.
