Three Newark officers are being commended for saving a suicidal man from the Route 78 overpass Monday morning, authorities said. Officers Darrell Fields, Abdul Aziz Yasin, and Miguel Silva responded to the Route 78 overpass at West Runyon Street and Irvine Turner Boulevard where they quickly exited their car to rescue the distraught man, just after 10 a.m., according to Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. State Police: Driver Airlifted In Hunterdon County Minivan Crash On Route 78
A minivan driver was airlifted after colliding with another vehicle on Route 78 in Hunterdon County Sunday afternoon, state police said. The crash — involving a Hyundai Elantra and Dodge Grand Caravan — occurred on Rt. 78 westbound near milepost 22.8 in Clinton Township just after 1:45 p.m., NJSP Trooper Alejandro Goez told Daily Voice. The Dodge driver became entrapped in the crash and was flown to Morristown Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Goez said. A pair of Newark police officers rescued a 25-year-old suicidal man from jumping off of the Route 78 overpass Tuesday. Man Walking Along Route 78 Hit By Car, Hospitalized With Broken Leg
A man walking along Route 78 in Union County suffered a broken leg after being hit by a car Thursday night. The man was in the westbound lanes when he was struck by a Hyundai Elantra near milepost 50.4 around 10:40 p.m. in Union Townshp, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said. The man was taken to University Hospital in stable condition for treatment of his leg. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Multiple people were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries in a Route 78 crash Friday morning in Bedminster. The incident occurred at mile marker 29.6 on the westbound side of the highway, when the Jeep driver somehow lost control and struck the trailer around 8:30 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. The driver of a stolen pickup truck fled from officers and is still on the loose following an early morning chase across Routes 80 and 287 in Morris County, state police said.
