Two former employees of a New York-based utility company admitted to accepting bribes and kickbacks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Long Island-based contractor.
On Monday, Oct. 4, Long Island residents Patrick McCrann, age 57, of Selden, and Richard Zavada, age 65, of Hicksville, pleaded guilty to accepting the illegal payments, according to Jacquelyn Kasulis, acting United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York and Michael Driscoll, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI New York Field Office.

Long Island Teen Accused Of Targeting, Attacking Hispanic Men
A 19-year-old man was charged with hate crimes after police said he targeted Hispanic men, brought them to remote locations on Long Island, and attacked them.
Christopher Cella, of Selden, was arrested without incident at about 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
SCPD said at about 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, Cella drove to the area of La Placita, located at 711 Horseblock Road in Farmingville, and picked up a 52-year-old Holbrook man.

28-Year-Old Seriously Injured In Long Island Crash
Police are investigating a crash that seriously injured a Long Island man.
It happened Monday, Sept. 6 just before 2 p.m. in East Shoreham.
Jerry Comeau, age 28, of Selden, was riding a 2009 Harley Davidson eastbound on Route 25A, near George Avenue, with a group of three other motorcyclists, Suffolk County Police said.
One of the other operators collided with one of the other vehicles and fell from a 2005 Yamaha, causing a pileup, said police.
Comeau, who was at the back of the group, was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

7-Year-Old Dies From Injuries In Long Island Crash
One of two children who suffered critical injuries in a crash near a Long Island intersection has died.
The crash happened in Lake Grove at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17.
Andreia Gaynor, age 40, of Farmingville, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Middle Country Road, just west of Hawkins Lane, when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot on the south side of the street, Suffolk County Police said.
The Traverse then struck a 2018 Nissan Rogue being driven by Sungeethah Subramaniam, age 22, of Selden, police said.
