Flames Rip Through Franklin Square Bagel Shop, Damage Spreads To Other Businesses: Arson Squad
A fire tore through a bagel shop, damaging multiple businesses on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 5:18 p.m., Nassau County police announced on Monday, Nov. 24.
Officers were called to 529 Bagels at 529 Franklin Avenue, where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, according to detectives. Fire crews from Franklin Square and surrounding departments worked to put out the blaze.
Two adjoining business units sustained severe damage, police said.
A firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported, authorities added.

A Dutchess County family is asking for help after an intense house fire destroyed their home and belongings, leaving them with nowhere to go.
The fire broke out around before midnight on Friday, June 13 at 111 Maple Rd. in Fishkill, displacing six people, two dogs, and a kitten, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser launched by a relative.

A 46-year-old Perth Amboy man was arrested and charged on Friday, June 13, with setting a fire inside a home with five people, including an infant, authorities said.

Three people were injured and 13 people were displaced after a structure fire tore through a building in Phillipsburg on Friday, May 30, authorities said.
At 4:45 p.m., officers, fire and EMS responded to 266 Heckman St. for a structure fire with flames and heavy smoke showing, Phillipsburg police said.
