ID Released For Man Killed In Wrong-Way Wantagh Parkway Crash
The identity has been released of a person killed in a wrong-way crash on Long Island as well as for a man who was hospitalized.
The crash happened on the Wantagh State Parkway just south of the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh at around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug.13.
Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet northbound in the southbound lanes when he struck a 2014 Honda, state police said.
The Honda was driven by Jay Lasker, 54, of North Bellmore, according to police.
Simek succumbed to his injuries at the scene, said police.

Six Injured After Vehicle Drives Off Southern State, Crashing Into Pickup Truck, Parked Car
Six people, including an infant, were injured, one seriously, after a vehicle drove off the Southern State Parkway and crashed into a pickup truck and parked car.
It happened on Sunday, Aug. 9 at about 10:45 a.m. on the parkway near Old Britton Road in Hempstead.
The vehicle was traveling westbound went it left the roadway onto Old Britton Road and struck the pickup truck and a parked vehicle, state police said.
There were four occupants in the vehicle and two occupants in the pickup truck, according to police. The parked vehicle was unattended.

Long Island Woman Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree On Southern State Parkway
A Long Island woman was killed when her car crashed into a tree on the Southern State Parkway overnight, state police said.
It happened on Monday, July 13, at approximately 2 a.m., on the eastbound side in the area of exit 19S, in Hempstead.
Taeri Kim, 31, of East Meadow, was driving a 2015 Honda Accord when she lost control of the vehicle, striking the tree on the right shoulder, causing the vehicle to overturn, according to state police.
Kim was transported to Nassau University Medical where she succumbed to her injuries, according to police.
Long Island Man, 23, Killed After BMW Crashes Into Another Car, Guide Rail, Trees
A 23-year-old Long Island man was killed after his BMW hit another car, then a guide rail and several trees.
It happened at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31 on the westbound Southern State Parkway near Exit 17 in Hempstead.
Jordan C. Pieters, of Elmont, was driving the 2015 BMW M5 when he lost control of his vehicle, striking the back of 2003 Toyota Camry, driven by Jessica Perone, 35, of Franklin Square, according to state police.
Pieters' BMW then struck a guide rail, exited the roadway and struck multiple trees on the northern shoulder, according to police.
