Rockland Man Busted For Intoxicated Boating In Restricted Tappan Zee Bridge Waters A man from Nyack was busted for boating while intoxicated during a late night jaunt in a restricted area of the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee Bridge in Rockland County. The Rockland County Sheriff’s Marine Unit spotted a boater operating his vessel erratically at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 within the exclusionary zone of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Separate crashes caused gridlock in both directions on I-87 on the new Tappan Zee Bridge and in Rockland County early Saturday evening. A crash with injuries took out the left lane at the start of the new TZB span in Westchester on northbound (Rockland-bound I-87). There were stop-and-go delays to Route 9 before the lane reopened. A crash with at least one injury reported that initially took out the left lane caused gridlock at the start of the span of the new Tappan Zee Bridge during the Thursday evening commute. The 5 p.m. crash in Tarrytown was on the northbound (Rockland-bound) side of I-87 with stopped traffic at the scene and gridlock for several miles back to the I-287 merger for nearly an hour until the lane reopened.

The men, who have not been identified, tried to steal two “hammer tools” valued at $650 each around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday from Home Depot in Mount Pleasant, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police. Store employees spotted the men as they put the items in a cart and left without paying. When confronted, they fled in a car, O'Leary said. Four Workers Rescued At New Tappan Zee Bridge Four construction workers stuck beneath the underside of the new Tappan Zee Bridge were rescued by fellow employees. According to the Thruway Authority, the workers, who were in a bucket-type articulating truck working under the bridge, became stuck around 2:19 p.m. Wednesday when the equipment failed. Although local fire departments were called, employees with Tappan Zee Constructors had another vehicle on standby that was used to rescue the stuck workers, the authority said. No one was injured.
