A Long Island man charged in connection with a fatal overdose attempted to escape capture by ramming police vehicles and injuring an officer.
West Babylon resident Javonne Mimms, age 30, was arrested in Lindenhurst on Wednesday, May 18 in connection with the Sunday, April 10 fatal overdose in Merrick.
According to Nassau County detectives, during the investigation at the Best Western Hotel located at 5080 Sunrise Highway, in Massapequa Park, Mimms intentionally struck a Nassau County Police vehicle with a 2018 white BMW, causing a detective to suffer a back injury.

Mother Of Boy Struck By Motorcycle In West Babylon Wants More Charges, Police Say
A motorcyclist has been charged after striking an 11-year-old Long Island boy playing basketball and the boy's mother wants more charges added.
The incident took place in West Babylon around 6:10 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.
According to the Suffolk County Police, officers responded to a crash where a motorcyclist struck an 11-year-old boy on Bond Street in West Babylon.
The motorcyclist, Dylan Besser, age 19, and the child were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The child suffered a concussion, scrapes, and bruises, officials said.

A Long Island man has claimed a "$1,000 A Week For Life" lottery prize.
Suffolk County resident Marc Stenson, of West Babylon, claimed the second prize for matching the first five numbers drawn in the Dec. 25 CASH4LIFE game, the New York Lottery announced on Friday, April 29.
He chose to receive his prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $651,000 after required withholdings, the lottery reported.
Stenson told NY Lottery he had a "good feeling" after he claimed his ticket.
