Stratford Man Killed In I-95 Crash In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A Stratford man was killed in a one-car crash on I-95 in Fairfield early Monday morning, state police said. James A. Mindrum, 43, of Stratford was traveling north on I-95 just before 2 a.m. when his car veered off the right shoulder just south of exit 23, state police said. A witness told police that the Ford Escape that Mindrum was driving did not brake as it went through a wire rope guardrail, down an embankment and struck a tree head-on. Westport Police Chief Catches Pair With Fake Money Orders WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas caught two men while they were in the process of trying to cash a fraudulent money order Thursday, according to police. Koskinas saw a vehicle sitting in the Greens Farms Railroad Station parking lot with its blinker on, the engine running, and the driver laid back, police said. When he went to check on the driver, Koskinas could immediately smell marijuana as the window rolled down, according to police. Deadline Nears For Darien Art Center Smartphone Photo Contest DARIEN, Conn. – The deadline to submit an entry to the Darien Art Center's smartphone photo contest, Pic Darien, is rapidly approaching. The last day to submit smartphone photos for cash prizes in five categories is Monday, Feb. 27. Photos do not need to be taken in Darien. The contest is open to all. Malloy Signs Transgender Student Bathroom Protections After Trump Rollback FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed an executive order Thursday designed to protect transgender students in public schools following President Donald Trump's rolling back of Obama-era federal guidelines on school bathrooms. The guidelines issued last May ordered public schools to let students use bathrooms that matched their gender identity, otherwise they would be in violation of anti-discrimination laws and would lose funding. Stamford Teens Charged In Darien Car Burglary Spree DARIEN, Conn. – After a string of more than 20 car burglaries and two stolen vehicles in Darien in the past two weeks, two Stamford teens were arrested Thursday morning as part of an ongoing investigation, police said. One Killed In East Haven Plane Crash Near Tweed Airport EAST HAVEN, Conn. — One person was killed and another was injured Wednesday after a plane crash in East Haven near Tweed New Haven Airport, according to NBC Connecticut. The plane was from a Connecticut flight school, NBC Connecticut reported. It had issued a mayday call after leaving Tweed Airport. Tractor Trailer Crash Backs Up I-95 South Traffic In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- Traffic is congested on I-95 southbound in Westport after a tractor trailer crash Wednesday afternoon. The highway is backed up over a 3.9-mile stretch between exits 19 and 16 after the tractor trailer hit another vehicle between exits 17 and 16, according to the Department of Transportation. Beloved Parrot Missing After Fatal Norwalk House Fire NORWALK, Conn. — The family of a woman who died in a house fire in Norwalk last weekend is hoping to recover the woman's pet parrot, who has been missing since Sunday. Man Charged With Trespassing After Driving Jeep Into Easton Reservoir EASTON, Conn. — An off-roading excursion ended in charges Monday when a West Haven man drove his Jeep into the Easton Reservoir, according to police. Oliver Preissler, 24, said he was four wheeling with a group of people when he entered private property to gain access to the Easton Reservoir entrance road, according to police. His Jeep became disabled a few feet from shore, police said. Preissler was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal trespass. He was issued a misdemeanor summons to appear in court on March 2.

Police: Ex Broke Into Stamford Woman's Home, Threatened To Kill Pet Rabbit STAMFORD, Conn. -- A man was charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Stamford apartment, threw things around and threatened to kill her pet rabbit, according to police.On the night of Thursday, Feb. 9 police were sent to an apartment at 110 Towne St. on a report of a woman screaming for help.
