The celebration of the new gym was officiated by Cardinal Edward M. Egan, archbishop emeritus of the Archdiocese of New York. Egan knew the Dotys for many years and spoke of their generosity. Ponterio Ridge Street School in Rye Brook became young astronomers while attending a workshop taught by Steve "The Dirtmeister" Tomecek of Starlab Portable Planetarium. Tomecek gave the kids a lesson on constellations, the solar system and the phases of the moon. Report: Rye Playland Damage Won't Be Fixed By Opening RYE, N.Y. -- The damage to Rye Playland caused by Hurricane Sandy won't be fixed by the time the park is scheduled to open on May 11, according to a report by CBS 2 New York. The main boardwalk and seawall were heavily damaged in the storm, and repair work has not begun. The county was supposed to start the repairs but ran into legal problems with its contracts and had to let the project out to bid. Rye To Host First 'G Day' Weekend Of Sports Events RYE, N.Y. -- Rye will host two days of back-to-back athletic games in its first ever "G Day" weekend event April 5 and 6. Rye High School teams will take on teams from Harrison, Port Chester, Somers, Lakeland and Greenwich.
