Darien Needs To Repair Weed Beach Tennis Courts DARIEN, Conn. – Darien tennis players might have fewer courts to use if money can’t be found to repair the back courts at Weed Beach. “I’m concerned about the condition of those courts,” said Parks and Recreation Director Sue Swiatek. Tree roots and water basins beneath the surface have led to several cracks on the three back courts at the beach. “They’re in pretty bad shape.” Swiatek said the expected lifespan for asphalt tennis courts is between 18 and 20 years. Applications for rebates will be accepted through Sept. 15 at the Darien Social Service Department.
