Man's BMW Stolen From Long Island Gas Station, Police Say Police are asking for the public’s help after a man’s car was stolen from a Long Island gas station. It happened at around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the BP station on South Oyster Bay Road in Syosset, Nassau County Police said. The 35-year-old victim told police he left his 2011 BMW running and unlocked while he ran inside the store, police said. Catalytic Converter Thefts On Rise In Area Police are warning of an uptick in catalytic converter thefts in the area. The New York State Police are investigating numerous complaints of stolen catalytic converters from vehicles throughout the Columbia County area, according to a statement. The crimes are occurring at all hours of the day, with vehicles parked close to roadways or with more expensive catalytic converters more likely to be targeted, police said. Long Island Man Busted With Loaded Gun In Car, Police Say A Long Island man is facing charges after he was busted with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop, authorities said. Seon Linton, age 23, was stopped in Valley Stream at around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, along North Central Avenue, Nassau County Police said. Yonkers Apartment Superintendent Sentenced For Assaulting Tenant With Axe A former apartment building supervisor from Westchester County is heading to prison for attacking a tenant with an axe. Anan Badan swung the an at the victim in Yonkers in November 2020, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Roach. Western Mass Man Ordered To Pay $3M For Scheme To Defraud Company A man from the region will have to pay millions of dollars after admitting to defrauding a Massachusetts-based company. Brian Halpern, age 49, of the town of Florida in Berkshire County, was sentenced in federal court in Boston Wednesday, April 27, after pleading guilty to wire fraud and money laundering, the US Attorney’s Office said. Man Convicted Of Torturing, Killing Girlfriend's Pets At Her Home In Hudson Valley A man has admitted to torturing and killing his former girlfriend’s two pets inside her Hudson Valley home. Matthew Savinovich pleaded guilty in a Putnam County Court Tuesday, April 26, to two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, one count of torturing animals, and one count of attempted burglary. Massachusetts Man Admits To Attempting To Buy Jeep With Counterfeit Check A Massachusetts man is facing years behind bars after admitting to purchasing a Jeep using a counterfeit check. David Hogan, age 58, of Worcester, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud Monday, April 25, in federal court in Boston. Prosecutors said Hogan visited a Newton dealership in March 2021 and gave them a $56,000 check for a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which he then drove off the lot. Long Island Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Drunk Driving Crash A Long Island man has admitted responsibility for a drunk driving crash that killed a woman in Bethpage. John Cappello, age 31, of Massapequa, pleaded guilty Wednesday, April 27, to multiple charges that include aggravated vehicular assault and manslaughter, Nassau County DA Anne Donnelly said.
