Train Loaded With Liquid Fuel Cars Derails Into Mansfield River More than a dozen train cars derailed on Thursday morning, Feb. 5, and five ended up in the Willimantic River, state officials said. The incident happened at 9:22 a.m. in Mansfield, according to Connecticut State Police. A shelter-in-place order has been issued for the surrounding areas.  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said 14 train cars derailed. Dominick Donofrio, 73, formerly of Middlefield, pleaded guilty to wire fraud this week, the US Attorney for Connecticut said. Noreen Reu, 76, of Pittsfield, a mother of two and grandmother of three, was identified as the victim of a Virginia Avenue house fire around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan 31. Authorities said the home lacked any working smoke alarms.  Firefighters pulled her out of the burning home, but she later died at an area hospital.
