Sex Offender At Large In Somerset County: Prosecutor A 44-year-old sex offender was named the September Fugitive of the Month in Somerset County. Robert Ratliff is wanted on charges of failure to appear for failure to notify of address change as a registered sex offender and failure to verify address as a registered sex offender, which occurred from February 2025 to June 2026 in Franklin Township, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. John Higgins, 77, and Virginia Taetzch, 87, were last seen at Pyramid Avenue by Boonton Avenue, Montville police said. They were last heard from Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m., police said. SUV Goes Airborne On Route 80 In Mount Olive: Njsp A Mitsubishi SUV went airborne on Route 80 in Mount Olive on Monday, Aug. 31, authorities said. At 8:48 p.m., the SUV was traveling westbound when the driver lost directional control of the vehicle, overturned, struck the right concrete barrier, went airborne, traveled off the roadway, and landed on Main Street below the Route 80 west overpass, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Manahawkin Man Charged With Animal Cruelty After Dog Dies: Police A 40-year-old Manahawkin man is charged with animal cruelty after a dog died, authorities announced Monday, Aug. 31. On Friday, July 24, officers responded to a residence in Manahawkin after Christopher Cook kicked a dog, and the dog died soon after, Stafford police said. Cook was later charged with animal cruelty and surrendered himself to the Ocean County Jail where he was processed and released pending future court proceedings, police said.
