Darien Man Brings Computers, Hope to Guatemala Since Darien resident Don Livingston served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala in the late ’60s, the country has been ravaged by civil war. But Livingston is helping to improve its education system through his charity Computers for Hope. After leaving Guatemala, Livingston kept in touch with a family he met there and helped the kids get through school. One of the children became a teacher and asked Livingston to help a group of Catholic nuns bring computers to teach the children valuable skills. "I asked around town and started collecting computers, which I sent down. It snowballed f…

Currently they have every Board of Selectmen and RTM meeting dating back to November available on the town's website for residents to watch at their convenience. They are looking into adding meetings of other town boards to the website. "I've asked the IT department to do a search to find out if there is r…
Builders Appeal Darien Housing Ruling to State Builders Appeal Darien Housing Ruling to State Builders Appeal Darien Housing Ruling to State
Builders Appeal Darien Housing Ruling to State Darien affordable housing proponents Christopher and Margaret Stefanoni have appealed the town's decision rejecting their proposal for senior housing on Tokeneke Road. Under Connecticut statute 8-30g, the burden of proof is on local planning and zoning officials to show that a proposed development does not meet the requirements for affordable housing. The Stefanonis are claiming that the Darien Planning and Zoning Commission's March 9 ruling on 30 units of affordable housing does not include sufficient evidence to support rejection. The couple also recently rejected the town’s offer to co…

He walked for months with other children whose villages were attacked and whose families were missing, crossing many miles of desert. He spent the rest of his childhood in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya. He later settled in New York with fellow Sudanese refugees and started school. His recent talk with Middlesex students focused on the value of education…

Two Cars Broken Into at Darien Nature Center Two cars were broken into last Wednesday within minutes at the Darien Nature Center. The cars were parked a few spots apart at 11:45 a.m. while their owners picked up their children. Both owners said they left their cars unattended for only about five minutes. A Chevy Traverse owned by a Norwalk resident was left unlocked and was missing a red Coach wallet with credit cards and $10 in cash. The owner of a 2010 GMC Denali walked out to find her front passenger window had been smashed. A Gucci purse with $150 in a Louis Vuitton wallet, along with credit cards, was missing.
