"The race part was hard. But nothing's as hard as the challenges faced by women who have to battle breast cancer." Darien Sweeps Ludlowe in Final Fairfield Ludlowe volleyball coach Chris Skelton knew his team left all it had on the floor in Saturday's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship game against Darien. He also knows there's a reason Darien has won 10 straight league titles. "It's tough to play a team that is as relentless as they are,'' Skelton said after the Falcons lost 3-0, by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21. "Normally, 90 percent of the time a lot the balls we hit tonight is a point for us. Against Darien it's not. They defend well as a team and they're fundamentally sound." Maddie McCaffery ha…

Riders Soar at Rail Jam Will Maxwell and his team at the Outdoor Sports Center turned the store's parking lot into a ski slope Saturday afternoon as riders slid, jumped and yes, fell, during the fourth annual Rail Jam. "Every year it gets incrementally bigger,'' Maxwell said. "The first year we started with a ramp and a rail on the ground. Now we've got scaffolding and a much bigger ramp." There was also snow. Maxwell said two area hockey rinks contributed ice shavings, and Ski Sundown and Lee Horticulture delivered artificial snow — lots of it. Four truckloads of white powder covered the ramp where riders soared …
