Golfers Swing Away to Help Syha Parents and friends of players in the Stamford Youth Hockey Association were hitting with a different sort of stick Monday at Silvermine Golf Course in Norwalk. The organization hosted its 20th annual golf tournament to benefit its scholarship program. Over 50 players hit drives, putts and chip shots during the outing. "When we started the tournament 20 years ago, we wanted to build up the travel program,'' says league president Chris Berlingo. "Now it's more toward the scholarship fund and helping with financial aid packages." The hockey season is right around the corner for the SYHA. The …

Panthers Rout Aspetuck in Opener Norwalk's seventh-grade football Panthers have many offensive weapons in their arsenal. They used all of them Sunday afternoon in a 28-0 romp over the Aspetuck Wildcats to kick off their season with an impressive victory at Andrews Field. "The thing I like most about this game is all 34 players contributed,'' coach John Woodring said. "If you look up and down our team, you'll find somebody that had a good tackle, a good block, scored a touchdown or kicked an extra point." Alex Jerome ran for one touchdown and passed for another for Norwalk. He scored on a 9-yard touchdown run on Norwalk's f…
Wildcats Drop Opener to Norwalk Wildcats Drop Opener to Norwalk Wildcats Drop Opener to Norwalk
Wildcats Drop Opener to Norwalk Norwalk put its superior size advantage to good use Sunday to defeat the Aspetuck Wildcats, 28-0, in the season-opener for both seventh-grade teams. Aspetuck battled until the final whistle, but the Panthers' size was too much to handle for the Wildcats. "We had some opportunities, but we were outsized,'' Aspetuck head coach Philip LiCastri said. "It's hard to match up an 85-pound guy against a 215-pound guy. Coming from the towns that we do (Weston, Easton and Redding), we are usually one of the smaller teams. They were just bigger than us." Alex Jerome ran for one touchdown and passed for…
