Norwalk Tops McMahon Behind Cohen For Norwalk's baseball team to be a serious challenger in the league and state playoffs, the Bears need pitcher Jonathan Cohen to be at his best. Like he was last night in a 4-0 win over city rival Brien McMahon. Cohen pitched a complete-game three-hitter with 12 strikeouts to pace the Bears over the Senators. He took a no-hitter in the fourth inning, walked three and had the Senators off balance all evening. "He threw like that in the first game of the year, and then struggled for a couple of starts,'' Norwalk coach Angelo Bruno said. "When he's relaxed, he gives a good effort. I told him h…

He averaged 5:12 per mile and won by 23 seconds over Anatolie Vartosu of Stamford. Kevin Woodin of West Haven was third in 17:11. That may not sound like news, until you realize the Fairfield man underwent a double-lung transplant last November and doubted a day like this would ever come. "It's sort of the ultimate challenge,'' said Sweeney, who is a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness in Darien. "In my head, I always wanted to do something like this and I was never able to." Sweeney suffers from cystic fibrosis, and underwent the transplant on Nov. 10, 2009. Doctors told him to resume exercise six weeks later. Instead, it was only …
