Incumbent Vavrek Wins 4th Term As First Selectman In Monroe MONROE, Conn. -- First Selectman Steve Vavrek grabbed another term as first selectman in Monroe with a narrow victory Tuesday over Democrat Dan Hunsberger. Vavrek, a Republican, won a fourth term with nearly 2,400 votes, according to unofficial results. Hunsberger received more than 1,900 votes. By a margin of 3-1, Stratford voters rejected the proposed sale.  Mayor John Harkins had proposed the sale of the plant, but it was held up by five petitioners with the group WPCA Stratford-Get Answers.
