New Canaan's Whirlwind Divers Win Another YMCA Title NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan YMCA Whirlwind diving team captured another championship at the YMCA National Diving Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Norwalk Lacrosse Player Makes National All-Star Team NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk's Kelly Gouin, an eighth-grade student at King in Stamford, has been named a 2014 Brine National All-Star and has been selected to represent the Connecticut region at the 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Academy and Brine National Lacrosse Classic. He will participate in both in Boyds, Md., from June 30-July 3. Gouin is the son of Danny and Kathy Gouin. His father is the head football coach at King. Stamford's Stillmeadow School Team In Odyssey Finals STAMFORD, Conn. -- A group of Stamford students from Stillmeadow School will compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals beginning Wednesday, May 28, at Iowa State University. Pound Ridge Rowers Head To Nationals With Norwalk Team POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge rowers Kris Petreski and Liam McDonough are among 10 athletes Norwalk River Rowing is sending to the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Norwalk River Rowing qualified five boats for the National Championships at the USRowing Northeast Championship Regatta in Lowell, Mass. New Features Added For Hope In Motion Races In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. -- Some new features, including a 10-kilometer race, have been added to the Hope In Motion race in Stamford. A 5K and 10K to support Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center will begin Sunday, June 1, at 8 a.m. at Columbus Park. Besides the new 10K, the race will also have net timing, which will provide more accurate times. There will also be an awards ceremony after the races and a fire/police division. Italian Center Rallies For Stamford Little League Win STAMFORD, Conn. -- Jack Seegers’ solo blast tied the game and Christian Frattaroli scored the winner on a passed ball as the Italian Center beat Sound View Engineers, 5-4, in a Stamford Little League game. Robert J. Northcott, 93, Former Wilton Police Chief WILTON, Conn. – Robert J. Northcott, who was the first police chief in Wilton, died on May 16. The Fairfield resident was 93. Northcott was the first police chief when the Wilton Police Department was organized in 1969. Northcott worked for 14 years in Wilton. He previously was a Connecticut state trooper, retiring with the rank of sergeant after 25 years.
