Darien 8th Grade Football Team Reaches Title Game DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien White eighth-grade football team defeated Fairfield, 21-12, in the semifinals of the Fairfield County Football League playoffs and will play for the championship Saturday. Darien will meet Wilton White in Saturday’s title game. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Darien High School. Darien defeated Wilton White, 20-0, on Sept. 22. Darien, coached by Rich Joyce, is 9-1 on the season. Its only loss was to Westport North. Wilton defeated Westport, 24-16, in the other semifinal to earn the spot to play for the league title. Swimmers Head For Norwalk As Zeus Hosts Large Invitational Meet NORWALK, Conn. – The Zeus Swim Team in Norwalk will host the 10th annual Betty Philcox meet at Norwalk High School beginning Friday and running through Sunday. The meet will include nearly 400 swimmers from 17 teams. The meet is named after Betty Philcox, who started the Norwalk Aquatic Club nearly 60 years ago at the Norwalk YMCA. The Norwalk Aquatic Club was the forerunner of Zeus. “It’s always good to have a big meet like this every year,’’ Zeus coach Omar Cruz said. “She was a big part of swimming in Norwalk.
