Darien White 8th Grade Football Team Beats New Canaan DARIEN, CONN. – The Darien White 8th grade football team improved to 4-0 in the Fairfield County Football League Saturday with a 20-6 win over New Canaan. Darien plays Fairfield Black on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Darien High School. Fairfield is also unbeaten (3-0-1) and has shutout three of its four opponents.

Teacher's Old Tricks Give Young Riders A Leg Up In South Salem SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Technology and scientific advances changed the world dramatically over the past 50 years. Darien Boys Cross Country Takes Over Top Spot In State DARIEN, Conn. – Darien High School’s boys cross country team took over the top spot in the state coaches cross country poll after winning the Manchester Invitational last weekend in New Hampshire. Darien, which was second in last week’s poll, moved ahead of league rival Danbury with the win in Manchester. Darien earned eight first-place votes among the 16 coaches voting in the poll. Danbury is ranked No. 2, and Fairfield Prep, Ridgefield and New Milford round out the top five. Darien moved to the top of the poll after scoring 78 points in the Manchester win. Wilton Rowers Help Norwalk Team Win 6 Events In First Fall Regatta WILTON, Conn. -- Rowers from Wilton helped the Norwalk River Rowing Association start its fall season in style with six first-place finishes at the Head of the Merrimack regatta last weekend in Massachusetts. Norwalk River Rowing added five second-place finishes and one third. Mural Brings New Look To Kids' Area At Cross County In Yonkers YONKERS, N.Y. -- Artist Stephanie Pollack has given the Cross County Shopping Center's children's area a new look. Pollack, who runs Watercolor Designs by Stephanie, was commissioned to complete a 45 foot long by three foot tall mural on the back wall of the playground in mid-September and created a jungle wonderland for kids to enjoy. John 'Jack' DePaoli, 79, Carpenter In Croton Falls, North Salem Fire Chief NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- John Joseph “Jack” DePaoli died surrounded by family members on Aug. 15. He was 79. DePaoli was born Dec. 19, 1933, and was one of 12 children of the late Margaret Connell and Nicholas DePaoli of Lake Purdys, N.Y. His father was killed in a construction accident when he was five years old, leaving his mother to raise all 12 children on her own. He was awarded the “Prettiest Baby Award” in 1934 and was named “Best Sense of Humor” of the graduating class of 1951 from St. Mary’s in Katonah.
