Ossining's Hoffman Holds Rare Political Distinction OSSINING, N.Y. – Only two men have held both the office of mayor of New York City and governor of New York. One was Ossining native John T. Hoffman, who served from 1866-68 as mayor and from 1869-72 as the governor. Hoffman was born on Jan. 10, 1828 in what was then the Village of Sing Sing. Ossining's Historic First Baptist Church Mourns Long-Time Pastor OSSINING, N.Y. – Members of Ossining’s Historic First Baptist Church were saddened to learn Friday of the death of Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. Gordon Anderson. Anderson, 93, came to the church in 1998 and retired in July 2011.
