Buckle, an eighth-grade football player at St. Luke’s in New Canaan, has been selected to play in the Eastbay Youth All-American Game on Sunday in San Antonio, Tex. Buckle, an offensive lineman, will play for the East eighth-grade team in a game against the West eighth-graders. The game will be played at the Alamo Dome. Buckle is the only Connecticut player on the East 185-pound team. Boys are nominated to participate in the game, and a selection committee narrows the field to 40 players. Norwalk Pitcher Earns Preseason Honor at Pitt NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Matt Iannazzo, a senior pitcher at the University of Pittsburgh, was named Wednesday to the preseason All-Big East team. Iannazzo was one of four pitchers named to the team. He went 8-3 with a 2.73 earned run average in 102 1/3 innings last year for the Panthers, and earned a complete-game victory in a 7-2 decision over Louisville in the Big East Tournament. Mazzilli was one of three UConn baseball players named to the preseason All-Big East team by conference coaches on Wednesday. Teammates Tim Martin and Joe Pavone were also preseason All-Big East selections. Mazzilli, a junior second baseman, hit .338 and had 32 RBIs last year.
