Search For Explosives Turns Up Empty After Bridgeport Bomb Threat BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — No explosive device was found after police in Bridgeport shut down several streets following a bomb threat on Boston Avenue Friday afternoon, according to the Connecticut Post. Police had received reports of an explosive device in an apartment building on Boston Avenue near Palisades Avenue at around 1 p.m., prompting the shutdown of nearby streets and schools to be placed on lockdown, the Connecticut Post reported. Homeless Man Wanted For Sexual Abuse Of Girl Arrested In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. — A homeless Stamford man who police said had sexually assault a girl for several years was arrested on Thursday, according to the Stamford Advocate. Police told the Stamford Advocate that 40-year-old Danillo Palma had committed sexual abuse against the girl for several years, but it was never reported until last fall. Norwalk School Budget That Includes Layoffs, Cuts Moves Forward NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Board of Education Finance Committee approved a budget Thursday night that includes several large cuts and layoffs in an effort to decrease its deficit, according to the Hour. The cuts to the 2017-18 school year budget include trimming 1 percent of each school's budget, as well as eliminating 45 employee positions and cutting programs such as preschool at Brookside Elementary, middle school private music lessons, and closing the pool at Norwalk High School, the Hour reported. Norwalk Woman Charged With Leaving Kids Alone In Car While She Shops NORWALK, Conn. — A woman was charged with leaving two kids in her car while she shopped in Norwalk, according to the Hour. Police were called to 330 Connecticut Ave. Thursday night at around 8:30 p.m. when a passerby reported that two kids were left alone in a car, the Hour reported. Elderly Trumbull Man Nearly Loses $8,500 In 'Grandparent Scam' TRUMBULL, Conn. -- An elderly Trumbull man almost lost $8,500 after scammers convinced him that his grandson had been arrested in Boston, according to police. The Trumbull man received a call on June 1 from a man who claimed to be an officer in the Boston Police Department, telling him that his son was in jail after having been arrested for drunken driving.
