Eversource Digs In For $3.8 Million In Natural Gas Improvements In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. – Eversource announced that it has invested $3.8 million to upgrade the gas distribution system in the Shippan section of Stamford in an effort to ensure continued safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to its customers. The project includes replacing more than 11,000 feet of existing cast iron and bare steel gas main with newer plastic pipe. Eversource said the new plastic pipe is safer, more durable and better able to handle fluctuations in underground temperatures. BMW Grill Stolen, Land Rover Keyed In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- The front grill of a BMW was stolen while the car was parked in a driveway in Darien last week, police said. Sometime between 7 p.m. on the night of Thursday, April 20 and 7:30 a.m. on the morning of Friday, April 21, the front grill was stolen from the 2003 BMW 325XI. The car had been parked in a driveway of a residence in the 400 block of Hoyt Street. The cost of replacing the grill was $100, police said. Greenwich Man Charged In New Canaan Crash That Caused Large Power Outage NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A Greenwich man was arrested in connection with a crash in New Canaan that knocked out power to more than 1,000 people on Sunday. New Canaan Police were dispatched to Smith Ridge Road at around 4:45 p.m. Sunday on a report that a car had gone off the road and hit a rock wall and the guide wire for a utility pole, police said. Nemec as the school's ninth president, effective July 1. Nemec is currently dean of the William B. and Catherine V. Greenwich Police Seek Suspect In Bank, Gas Station Robberies GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Police are asking for any information the public can provide on the person suspected of robbing a gas station Monday night and a bank Tuesday morning. Norwalk Man Charged With Breaking Into Home, Assaulting Woman NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk man was charged with breaking a door to a home and hitting a woman who lived there on Sunday night, according to the Hour. Deported Man Living In Norwalk Sentenced For Illegally Re-Entering U.S. NORWALK, Conn. -- A Mexican citizen living in Norwalk who has repeatedly crossed into the United States despite being deported has been sentenced again for illegally entering the country, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut. Daly said that Alberto Silva-Garcia, 46, was deported back to Mexico in 1999 after being convicted of domestic violence in California. Between March 1999 and April 2004, Silva-Garcia was encountered several times by immigration agents in California, Daly said. Weston Planning Commission Votes Down Proposed Dog Park WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Planning and Zoning Commission voted down an application for a dog park on Davis Hill Road at a meeting on Monday night, according to the Weston Forum. The commission rejected the proposal by a 5-2 vote, determining that the 3.5 acre dog park on the town-owned Moore property was not an appropriate use for the site, the Weston Forum reported. Stratford School Board Picks Last Day Of School, Graduation Dates STRATFORD, Conn. -- The Stratford Board of Education has selected June 14 as the date of the Stratford High School and Bunnell High School graduation dates, according to the Stratford Star. June 16 was also selected as the last day of school at the Stratford Board of Education meeting on Monday, the Stratford Star reported. Norwalk Man Charged With Trying To Hit Girlfriend's Dad With Car NORWALK, Conn. — An argument between a Norwalk man and his daughter's boyfriend ended with the boyfriend hitting the other man with his car, according to the Hour. Police told the Hour that Kristjan Duhanaj, 26, had gone to the Frank Street home of Joseph Oboy, 51, on Saturday afternoon with his girlfriend to pick up their dog.
