Ctdot Begins Treating Roads Ahead Of Blizzard FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- State officials are preparing Connecticut's roads and highways for the blizzard that is expected to hit the area Tuesday, and getting plows ready to clear the snow once the storm arrives. The Department of Transportation announced that maintenance crews are spending the day pre-treating roadways with salt brine, which helps melt snow once it begins to fall. The department has 634 plow trucks and 250 private contract plow operators on standby to be called if necessary, the DOT said.
