Norwalk Encourages Residents To Adopt A Hydrant, Dig It Out During Storm NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Fire Department is encouraging residents to "Adopt A Hydrant" during the blizzard Monday and Tuesday to help firefighters reach hydrants in case of an emergency. When fire hydrants become buried in snow, it can be difficult for firefighters to locate them. It can take firefighters an extra four to six minutes to uncover a hydrant and gain access, while fires double in size every 20 seconds, according to the fire department. Westport Activates Emergency Operations Center For Snowmageddon2015 WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport has activated its Emergency Operations Center to prepare for the blizzard rolling in Monday afternoon and slamming the area Tuesday. "Safety is the utmost priority. If there is a power outage, repairs will be made when it is safe to do so," First Selectman Jim Marpe said in a message to residents.
