2014 In Review: Snowstorms Pummel Fairfield County, Deep Freeze Settles In FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The winter of 2014 felt like it would never end, with storm after storm dropping record amounts of snow on Fairfield County. More than 70 inches of snow fell on the area, with storms and cold temperatures lasting well into March and April. Residents endured more than 12 snowstorms over the winter months. 2014 In Review: Himes Fends Off Challenge From Debicella To Win Re-Election FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – One of the biggest contests in the busy election year in Fairfield County was the rematch between Democrat Jim Himes and Republican Dan Debicella to represent Connecticut’s Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Driver Goes Off Road At End Of Route 7 Connector In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. -- A driver was injured when her car went off the road at the end of the Route 7 connector in Norwalk on Monday night, fire officials said. The Norwalk Fire Department responded to reports of a single-car accident near the end of the connector at 9:22 p.m. Monday. The car, a Mazda 3, was traveling north on the connector when it crossed Grist Mill Road and went up an embankment, coming to a rest 25 feet from the roadway, fire officials said. Get Your Gifts Wrapped By Darien's Teens At The Depot DARIEN, Conn. -- If you're too busy to wrap your presents this year, let Darien's teenage elves down at the Depot take care of it for you. The Depot's annual Wrap Up will conclude Tuesday. The volunteers at the teen center have been busily wrapping presents since Saturday, with all money raised going to support the Depot's many activities for Darien youths. Homeless Man Charged With Breach Of Peace At Darien Library DARIEN, Conn. -- A homeless man was arrested after causing a disturbance at the Darien Library last week, according to police. Robert Houseworth, 59, was charged with breach of peace. He was held on $500 bond and given a court date of Dec. 29. Houseworth has been arrested in the past for camping in the woods in Darien. Police received a report on Thursday, from a library employee, who said that Houseworth had caused a disturbance. 11-Month-Old River Otter Levi Makes A Splash At Maritime Aquarium NORWALK, Conn. -- The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk welcomed an adorable new member to its family Thursday when 11-month-old Levi joined the river otter exhibit. Levi was born in February at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. He joins Lew, an 11-year-old river otter who has been alone in the exhibit since his companion, Bell, passed away in April. Norwalk Employees Give Back By Donating Gift Baskets To Nonprofits NORWALK, Conn. -- Employees of the city of Norwalk came together to help out some of the city's biggest nonprofits this holiday season. Every year the city's employees donate food and toys to The Salvation Army, the Open Door Shelter and Person-to-Person.
