Norwalk Energy Assessments To Fund New Student Program At Aquarium NORWALK, Conn. – The success of the Norwalk Energy Challenge has allowed the city to fund a new educational program for students at the Maritime Aquarium. The Energy Challenge was spearheaded by the Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force, led by Councilman John Kydes. Van Crashes Into Westport Garage WESTPORT, Conn. -- A van crashed into a house on Terhune Drive in Westport after the driver forgot to put the vehicle in park, fire officials said. An engine and the shift commander from the Westport Fire Department responded to the house at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a vehicle hitting a building. Four Men Breaking Into Car Charged With Trespassing In Norwalk, Police Say NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk police arrested four men on trespassing charges after residents of a Commerce Street apartment complex reported seeing them trying to break into a car. Emmanuel Thiersaint, 35, of Stamford; Dennis Tolliver, 36, of Stamford; Everett Goethe, 32, of Bridgeport; and Clerde Pierre, 36, of Stamford, were each charged with second-degree criminal trespassing. Norwalk School Board Appoints Connelly Interim Superintendent NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Board of Education has appointed James A. Connelly as the interim superintendent of schools to take over from current Superintendent Manuel Rivera, who is leaving his position at the end of January. The school board approved Connelly’s appointment at its meeting Tuesday night, with six board members in favor, none opposed and two abstaining. If Connelly’s appointment is approved by the state commissioner of education, as expected, he would begin his duties on Jan. 19. Stew Leonard's Marks Hanukkah With Menorah Lighting NORWALK, Conn. -- The greater Norwalk community celebrated the first night of Hanukkah with the lighting of an 18-foot menorah at Stew Leonard's on Tuesday night. Rabbi Yehoshua Hecht of Beth Israel of Westport/Norwalk led the ceremony, which is now in its 22nd year at Stew Leonard's. Delgado Named Norwalk Police Officer Of The Month NORWALK, Conn. -- Officer Hector Delgado has been named the Norwalk Police Department's Officer of the Month for November. A member of the Community Policing Unit, Delgado was given the award at the Police Commission meeting Monday night. He was nominated by Sgt. Tom Fern for his extensive work with the PAL Children's Holiday Party and the Person-to-Person community outreach coat drive. Truck Snaps Utility Pole In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- A utility pole snapped on Sylvan Road in Westport on Saturday after a truck slammed into it, closing the roadway while the mess was cleaned up and the pole was replaced. Police officers and firefighters responded to the scene at 8:30 a.m. on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole and wires. Fairfield County Veterans Honored With Wreaths Across America Ceremony DARIEN, Conn. – Darien joined other communities across the nation in honoring veterans Saturday with a Wreaths Across America ceremony at Spring Grove Cemetery. Wreaths Across America, an organization that began in 1992, pays tribute to veterans each holiday season.
